Durham Beef got its beginnings through Hagerlan Farms, our family farm, which has successfully shown Registered Shorthorn cattle at the national level with great success since the 1950's. Over the past six decades and starting with my grandfather, we have spent those years, developing and tweaking our beef cattle herd through best management practices to produce animals that consistently yield the finest cuts of meat.

 

Over the past few years, I have noticed a growing trend among friends and acquaintances a growing discontent with the high price, lack of flavor, and traceability of beef available in the local supermarket. I often heard these comments at picnics and tailgates, where I was grilling steaks and burgers for my friends and family. Many of these same people begin to ask why my steaks and burgers looked and tasted so much better than what they acquired at the local supermarket. It was at this point I saw opportunity to market the beef produced on Hagerlan Farms directly to the consumer. Thus, Durham Beef was born. Now, you the consumer are able to benefit from our over six decades of Shorthorn breeding, in the form of flavorful and tender yet leaner beef at reasonable price relative to your local supermarket.
